:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kim Phillips -- Truly, "A Sense of Place" : Chris Hughes is a master storyteller and this book gives an honest account of what it was like to grow up in Roaring Creek, NC, in Appalachia. Chris truly captures the essence of "place" in this book. The first chapter, "There's no place like home," describes what it means to have "A Sense of Place." The rest of the book builds on that foundation with examples of what creates that sense of place. If you are from Appalachia, you will relate! If you are not from Appalachia, this book will give you insight on the wonderful experiences that create a sense of place. I highly recommend this book! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dana Jackson -- Absolutely wonderful description of living in that place! : It was a wonderfully written book. Having spent a lot of time on Roaring Creek myself I could just see everything he described in his book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dale Calloway -- Just like the author was sitting next to you...... : The book is written in the vein of Earl Hamner, writer of The Waltons tv series, only humorous. Yet thought provoking. You could probably "flesh out" the characters enough in the book to make a screenplay. A very comprehensive look at people, customs, and attitudes of people from a remote area of the mountains. Looking forward to another book.....................
